Why Exercise Physiology?
What’s The Difference?
Physical Therapy
A Physical Therapist may either have a master’s degree-type level in physical therapy (PT) or a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT). Insurance is optional to work with a physical therapist, and in some cases a doctor’s referral may be required. Number of sessions may be restricted by insurance.
Physical Therapists are best for patients directly out of surgery, experiencing chronic and acute illnesses/injuries affecting every day activities (EDA), and recovering from broken bones. Their primary goal is to get you back to your every day activities such as bathing and putting away dishes.
Exercise Physiology
An Exercise Physiologists has a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science (MS). Insurance may be accepted, depending on the provider, and often left up to the provider as to whether or not insurance will be accepted. Number of sessions are unlimited.
Exercise Physiologists are best for clients looking for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and to learn proper form. Exercise Physiologists’ primary goal is to increase your balance, mobility, strength, and ability to get up off the floor! They focus on anatomical alignment and good posture. They are able to work alongside other healthcare professionals to bring you a wholistic approach.
Personal Training
A Personal Trainer is required by law to have a high school diploma and personal training certification. Insurance does not cover work performed by personal trainers. Number of sessions are unlimited.
Personal trainers are best for clients looking to improve their physical health through strength training. They are unable to work with injuries, illnesses, special populations, or kids under 14 years of age. Their primary goal is to keep you accountable and get you to move more.
